Mineral Magic at Geevor
£550
“Geevor Tin Mine, on the far Western Peninsular of Cornwall, finally closed in May 1991 after 80 years of mining tin and copper. The area is now a Cornish Mining World Heritage site, the buildings within its boundaries well preserved. But step outside the confines and you find real industrial ruin, and hints of the harsh reality of the mining world. I love to wander amongst the footprints of old buildings, and into the areas of exposed rock. It is there you can find the detail of minerals, still seeping out into the present. The remote Atlantic landscape is bleak on any day, but these dashes of colour are small reminders of the rich veins of magic that brought the miners back here time and time again.” – Hilary Stock
